The Thrill of It All

Spice Girl graciously guards her new territory and daily roams the beach at Youghal, Ireland.  This Florida born  rescue dog who grew up listening to southern American voices now listens to southern Irish accents with many Gaelic words included.

I have not met Pamela from the house of edward.blog but I imagine she has a soft southern American accent.   Some time back, Tish Jett from afemmeduncertainage.blog wrote of Pamela and her dog Edward and in passing said, "someone should paint this image".   I thought to myself why not give it a try.   I am a plein aire painter and took the opportunity to set up my easel on Youghal beach in the brilliant light of  day.

Pamela & Edward oil on canvas

In my right brain, and oblivious to all things logical,  I painted to my heart's delight.  A couple stopped and said "Are you from Indian Rocks Beach, Florida"?   I said "yes, how did you know"   They said "we saw your umbrella"

My latest read "The Thrill of it All" by Joseph O'Connor.  When I finished the last page, I immediately returned to page one and read it again.  It is set in England, circa 1980 and is the story of a rock band called The Ships.   Joseph O'Connor is brother to Sinead O'Connor.
Hearing an author's speak about their work is also thrilling  Joseph O'Connor

Hope you are blissfully enjoying sunshine and blue skies

  1. What a gorgeous painting. You look very much at home on the beach with your umbrella and your easel, painting while enjoying the breeze off of the ocean. The light must be wonderful there.

When Tish Jett suggested this, I thought why not. I have always loved when Pamela writes about her dog Edward and I felt like I knew them.

    1. Hello Loree

It is the longest beach in Ireland and one can walk for miles(when the tide is out). On the day I painted it was quite windy and my umbrella wanted to go for a sail.

      Have a wonderful weekend

You are in IRELAND? Now that's a place I'd love to go to and really, all of Great Britain. Just in that region alone, there are diverse languages, cultures and geographical wonders, and you are there to experience it all! BRAVO! And your rendition of Pamela and Edward is so beautiful...FREE and flowing...something I can't do!

Thank you so much for taking a stroll to come to visit my corner of the world. Sweet September to you! Anita

  14. Hi Helen - believe it or not?! I haven't forgotten - and the other day thought I'd come up trumps - but it was not the person from Youghal .. when I do - you will know!

Amazing picture of Pamela and Edward - what a delightful face Edward has ... enough to cheer us all along .. glorious and what fun about your brolly being recognised!

Amazing you could read the book and then start again - that is luxury .. but Joseph O'Connor and Sinead ... how interesting to be introduced to her brother and his works - I am unread!

    Cheers Hilary

I think you might like Joseph O'Connor's writing. He has a regular slot on Irish Radio and also reviews books for the Irish Times. The O'Connors are a very talented family.
