Lights Camera Action Art and What's Right With Tampa Bay

What's Right With Tampa Bay is a weekly feature by Fox TV Tampa.   They contacted us in March asking if they could follow us as we painted for a morning.  Brian Grey is a talented interviewer and photographer.  We were immediately made feel comfortable as his camera zoomed in. Brian has been to the finest museums and galleries in Europe and before long we were chatting like long time friends.

Three hours of filming and interruptions with passing traffic and enthusiastic tourists passed all too quickly.  As you can see from the shadows, we were in the noon hour sunshine. Temperature was 88 degrees and our umbrellas provided relief

Fresh Florida strawberries and oranges replenish our energy
Back at Mary Rose Holmes studio for afternoon tea and refreshments.

We extended an invitation to Brian Grey and Fox TV Tampa to join us in Ireland on June 13th at The Old Market House Arts Centre, Dungarvan, Co Waterford Ireland, when Coastal Cottages Series 18 is unveiled.  The show features paintings of Ireland and Florida and last count it looks like we will have 36 new paintings.

  3. That is so exciting. If I had to speak in front of a crowd, I would have a heart attack; that or my voice would be so tremulous, no one would understand me.

  4. Dear Helen - how lovely to see the three of you artistic ladies painting and chatting in the Floridian sunshine and all looking lovely and very relaxed.
I am happy to talk in public as long as I am discussing something that I know about.
Did Brian Grey and Fox TV Tampa accept your kind invitation to film in Ireland?

    1. Hello Rosemary,
Mary Rose is the most experience at Public Speaking and has given several TV and radio interviews. Violetta also gets to the heart of the matter when speaking and while she speaks softly has the gift of holding an audience and there is complete silence when she speaks.
We shall see if our new found friends from Fox will show up in Ireland.
      Have a great weekend

  5. How lovely to hear your voices!
Such a gift each of you has and shares.
Public speaking? For some reason I lost my fear years ago. Perhaps it is due to teaching adults. Who knows?

  11. Hi Helen - sounds wonderful ... and I loved the clip - great camaraderie and I certainly hope the Dungarvan trip comes off - that'll be fun. I sincerely hope our weather improves .. though I gather the cloud scapes in the next couple of days could be extraordinary ...

I apologise for not being here .. I took on too much in April and am now catching up ... take care and enjoy your en plein air ...

PS I posted about Sarah Lay - a photographer based in Cornwall .. some pics here: http://positiveletters.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/x-is-for-x-factor-number-of-oddities.html

    Cheers for now - Hilary

  14. You are all the most wonderful advertisement in the world for Plein Aire Painting. Such vibrant colour in the sunshine.
Public speaking, I can do! But speaking into a camera makes me sound like a drone. I have to exaggerate all expressions and smile strangely.
Ireland is getting more tempting every day.
    Cheers Gillian
